How UC Davis researchers' work addresses the floods of 1997 in the Sacramento Valley will be the topic of a half-day free, public workshop called "The Floods of 1997 Revisited: Pause and Reflect." It will be held Wednesday, May 28, in Sacramento. UC Davis faculty speakers will discuss planning for development, environmental sustainability and flood management. Topics include urbanization of the Central Valley, managing landscapes to manage water, engineering flood-control systems, and wildlife and floods. Speakers will include Jeff Mount, geology professor; Peter Moyle, wildlife, fisheries and conservation biology professor; Jim Quinn, environmental studies professor; and Sharon Collinge, landscape architecture professor. The workshop is geared to legislators, scientists, water resource specialists, community planners, government officials and the news media. It is being sponsored by UC Davis.
