Terry Anderson, the news journalist who was held hostage for nearly seven years in the Middle East, will speak about his ordeal at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, in Freeborn Hall at UC Davis. Anderson was chief correspondent for the Associated Press in the Middle East when he was kidnapped on March 16, 1985. He is the author of "Den of Lions: Memoirs of Seven Years," an accounting of his 2,455 days as a prisoner of the Islamic Jihad in Beirut. The book discusses the political context in which the Middle East crisis unfolded and includes Anderson's poetry about his ordeal, which ended Dec. 4, 1991, making him the longest-held Western hostage. Anderson will be available to reporters between 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, behind the Freeborn stage. His appearance is sponsored by Student Forums.
