Many of the young farmers who will produce California's food and fiber during the next millennium will be among the more than 2,000 students gathering March 3-4 at UC Davis for the 19th annual Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Field Day. The largest "field day" competition in California, the Friday evening and Saturday event draws agricultural students from high schools and community colleges throughout the state. The students participate in competitions that demonstrate their skills in areas ranging from farming and ranching to food-processing and banking. A job-interview contest and a lively competition showcasing parliamentary procedure skills will be held Friday evening. On Saturday, students will be found throughout the UC Davis campus participating in livestock judging, tractor driving, engine repair and agri-science competitions -- to name just a few of the contests.
