Geographic Admissions Preferences Eliminated

The proposed preference for residents of Yolo, Solano and Sacramento counties has been removed from the UC Davis undergraduate admissions criteria by Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef. The slight edge given to the residents of the three counties closest to UC Davis was intended to help those UC-eligible students who could afford university costs only if they were able to live at home. Admissions criteria are proposed by the faculty senate, but the chancellor has the authority to make changes. He did so in this case because this criterion, while only marginally beneficial to Solano/Yolo/Sacramento residents, was widely perceived by residents of other counties to be unfair. u
