The Geological Society of America has named Charles Higgins, professor emeritus of geology at UC Davis, as a recipient of the E.B. Burwell Jr. Award for his paper, "Groundwater Geomorphology: The Role of Subsurface Water in Earth-Surface Processes and Landforms." The award is presented annually to the author or authors of a published work of distinction that advances knowledge concerning the principles or practice of engineering geology, or of the related fields of applied soil or rock mechanics where the role of geology is emphasized.
