Harvest Tasting

Fifty small-scale specialty crop growers in the Sacramento region will have a rare opportunity to open up potentially lucrative marketing channels for their produce during the Aug. 25 "Summer Harvest Tasting." The event, held at Caffe´ Donatello in Town and Country Village in Sacramento, will bring together growers, local restaurateurs, food writers, produce wholesalers, produce brokers and individual store buyers. Several micro-breweries, local wineries and a juice company will also showcase their products. "Interspersed among the growers will be 14 chefs from some of Sacramento's finest restaurants preparing dishes from the growers' produce," says David Visher of the UC Davis-based UC Small Farm Center, one of the event sponsors. There also will be comparative tastings of tomatoes, melons and basil. The tasting will not be open to the general public to ensure ample opportunity for growers to interact with potential clients.
