Hershman receives acclaim at Sundance Film Festival

UC Davis art professor Lynn Hershman received acclaim for a film she directed and produced, "Conceiving Ada," at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. The film was one of 15 dramatic films chosen from more than 2,000 entered at the festival. The film also was one of only three awarded a prize for outstanding achievement in the drama division at the International Cinema Festival held in Japan recently. In addition, Hershman won a $25,000 Flintridge Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts from the Flintridge Foundation in Pasadena. Selection was based on the level of serious artistic development and merit over at least 20 years. Hershman, one of 12 selected, was honored for her work in a variety of media -- photography, performance, site-specific installation, sculpture, and electronic and digital technologies.
