High Schoolers Going to College This Summer for Credit

High-achieving high-school students who have completed their junior year have the opportunity to earn college credit and experience university life by taking college courses offered through the UC Davis summer session program and sponsored by the Summer Humanities Institute. Designed to give high schoolers a head start in college-level humanities, the program enrolls students in courses taught by UC Davis faculty. Students can choose two of 25 courses that include literature, philosophy, history and cultural studies. The students live in residence halls on campus and participate in a variety of special events, presentations, workshops and recreational activities. Students who successfully complete their coursework earn between six and 10 college quarter units, according to Babette Schmitt, assistant director of the institute. The students will complete their coursework Aug. 5.
