For decades, Homecoming was a major event at UC Davis, with its "pajamarino" rally an eagerly awaited event for both students and alumni. Students would dress in pajamas and parade through the town to meet the returning alumni at the train station; then they would head back to campus for a bonfire. This year's event hearkens back to those early days and, though the pajamas will be missing, the bonfire and parade will be back, along with an alumni awards program, pizza-eating contest and free barbecue for the community. A week's worth of activities are planned this year in recognition of the important role the event can play on campus, says Erik Brent, head of the Cal Aggie Student Alumni Network, sponsor of the event with the Cal Aggie Alumni Association and Intercollegiate Athletics. Activities begin on Monday, Oct. 18, with a rally at noon on the Quad, continue throughout the week with daily noon programs and Friday evening awards dinner and bonfire, and culminate on Saturday with a parade through the community, a barbecue and football game between the Aggies and California State University, Northridge.
