Honor

Jack Forbes, professor emeritus in Native American Studies, is the 1997 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for the American Book Awards. Forbes was acknowledged for his extensive work with the Native American community. He established the nation's first Native American Studies program at UC Davis in 1969. He also conceived and developed D-Q University in 1971, the second of 29 tribal colleges in the United States.
