The History of Science Society bestowed its highest honor, the Sarton Medal, posthumously to Betty Jo Teeter Dobbs, a UC Davis professor of history who died in March 1994. Dobbs wrote two books about Sir Isaac Newton's alchemical interests. She placed Newton's scientific and religious ideas together, and showed the importance of early chemistry (alchemy) in the history of science.
