UC will have representation on a national farm-issues commission with the appointment of Desmond Jolly, director of the UC Small Farm Program based at UC Davis, as co-vice chair of the National Commission on Small Farms. The committee was created by U.S. Department Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman to study farm issues and make recommendations on improving federal and state services to small-scale farmers. The commission will hold public forums cross the country to gather information on agricultural credit, risk management, education and outreach programs, and will make its recommendations to Glickman this fall.
