You can lead a horse to water... but can you get him into your trailer? Just such practical issues, ranging from reproductive to legal problems, will be discussed Saturday, Oct. 10, when approximately 400 horse enthusiasts gather for UC Davis' 13th annual Horse Day Symposium.
The event attracts a broad spectrum of horse fanciers, from hobbyists to professional breeders. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UC Davis Main Theatre, featuring campus horse experts as well as visiting speakers.
Slated to speak during the symposium are UC Davis veterinary researchers who will talk about colic, vaccinations, venereal disease, and shoeing in relation to conformation. A visiting equine nutritionist will discuss proper feeding for horses, and a Los Angeles attorney will talk about legal issues facing horse owners.
Following the talks, symposium participants may view a demonstration by a horse-farm manager on loading horses into trailers, or tour the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and Center for Equine Health.
