Huge Picnic to Be Held This Month At UC Davis

One of the largest picnics in California will take place Saturday, April 22, when tens of thousands of people come to UC Davis for its annual Picnic Day. Opening ceremonies for the daylong campus open house will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the north end of the Quad, followed by a parade through the campus and downtown Davis. "Down to Earth" is the theme of this year's celebration, which corresponds to the 25th anniversary of Earth Day. Among the highlights are a chemistry magic show, fashion show, police dog agility demonstrations, sporting events, musical entertainment, departmental exhibits and a presentation by Antoine Predock, the architect of the recently completed Social Sciences and Humanities Building, at 10:30 a.m. in the building's main lecture hall. Picnic Day is organized by a 12-member student board of directors, led this year by Heather Marshall. This 82nd annual open-house event gives the UC Davis campus an opportunity to showcase its accomplishments, according to Marshall.
