UC Davis students will be defending last year's national title. The weekend competition features a sprint race, a road race and a "best" design category. Winning speeds will top 50 mph in both single and tandem divisions.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 3, 1994
Noon
WHERE: 1220 Bainer Hall

VISUALS: Both UC Davis entries will be displayed and ridden. Visuals of the tandem and single seat bicycles with and without ferring will be available along with students making last minute adjustments to frame.
DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 80 take the UC Davis exit and proceed north on Old Davis Road and stop at Kiosk for map instructions to the north side of Bainer Hall.
BACKGROUND: This is the 11th national championship that is sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The 25 student members from UC Davis are part of a vehicle-design class where they designed and built the bike, from paper to product. Competition gets under Friday, May 6, at 4 p.m. with the design phase of the contest. The sprint race will begin Saturday, May 7, at 7 a.m. at the University Airport. The competition will conclude Sunday, May 8, with the road race in campus parking lots 1, 2 and 2B near Interstate 80.
