James Watson

May 8 -- James Watson, co-discoverer of the molecular structure of DNA and a tireless champion of the cause of genetics, will speak on "Living With DNA" at Freeborn Hall at 8 p.m. In 1989, Watson became the first director of the Human Genome Project, the publicly financed international effort to decode the nearly 3 billion units of DNA at the heart of every human cell. An outspoken advocate of genetic research, Watson is forthright on the questions and quandaries such research will undoubtedly create. Tickets for the public are sold out but seats are available for journalists. Media contact: Sylvia Wright, News Service, (530) 752-7704, swright@ucdavis.edu.
