Job Outlook for UC Davis Grads Looks Positive

Despite the doom and gloom of California's strangled economy, there are job opportunities awaiting for UC Davis college graduates this June. "Our students are getting hired by biotechnical, engineering, environmental and food-science companies because of the strong undergraduate academic programs and the wide participation of students in internships," says Joe Stasulat, a program manager in the Internship and Career Center at UC Davis. More than 4,000 students annually participate in internships as a way to explore various careers and to get a foot in the door for full-time employment. There has been a fundamental shift in how students find jobs, according to Don Hagerty, a program manager at the center. "Networking is more important than resumes, so we teach our students how to approach company recruiters and prepare them to compete in an incredibly tight job market." Most UC Davis graduates will find jobs in California; however, many graduating seniors say they are ready to move anywhere for employment.
