Job Search Begins for Students

Thousands of UC Davis students will be testing the job market during the annual Career Week, beginning Monday, Oct. 16. Searching for a job online, identifying transferable skills and developing self-marketing strategies for the global economy are three timely topics to be addressed at various locations on campus. Career Week is sponsored by the Internship and Career Center on campus that helps thousands of students find internships related to their academic major. "We want to help students find good jobs and at the same time get useful feedback from employers," says Pamela Chao, manager of career-recruiting programs and coordinator of the campus Career Fair. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, in Freeborn Hall. More than 75 employers from Northern California will be discussing careers and internships with UC Davis students. Chao says the 1996 job outlook for graduating seniors looks much better than last year, partly because more employers are offering career positions than in recent years.
