Job Searches Begin Early for Grads

This year's seniors at UC Davis know they will be stepping into an economy strangled by recession and that finding jobs will be difficult. Many will be looking for help Oct. 25-29 during the 14th annual UC Davis Career Week. James Wallace, vice president of the northern division of Wells Fargo Bank, will kick off the event on Monday, Oct. 25, with a discussion of the "Do's and Don'ts of Finding a Job." The presentation will be held in MU II of the Memorial Union, beginning at noon. The highlight of the week's activities will be the Career Fair on Thursday, Oct. 28, where more than 80 corporate recruiters will talk to students in Freeborn Hall, beginning at 10 a.m. Students will meet employers and discuss careers and internship possibilities. "UC Davis students recognize that besides an academic degree, the three most important ingredients to successful job hunting are internship experience, good communication skills and contacts," says Pam Chao, manager of career recruiting programs on campus. "Because fewer companies are actively conducting on-campus job interviews, networking is essential."
