Journalist, Writer Andrew Lam to Give Reading at UC Davis

Andrew Lam, a commentator on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and an editor with Pacific News Service, will read from his fiction at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, in Room 166 of UC Davis' Chemistry Building. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Lam came to the United States at the end of the Vietnam war in 1975 when he was 11. His articles and essays have appeared in publications across the country including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Mother Jones, San Francisco Focus and The Nation. His short stories have been published and anthologized in publications including Amerasia, Transfer, Asian American Sexuality, The Other Side of Heaven, Once Upon a Dream: The Vietnamese American Experience, The Literary Companion to Vietnam, The Alsop Review, Crab Orchard Review, Vietnam Forum, In Posse Review, and Watermark: Vietnamese Poetry and Prose. Lam has won awards including the Society of Professional Journalist Outstanding Young Journalist Award, The World Affairs Council's Excellence in International Journalism Award, and the Asian American Journalist Association National Award. He was profiled on KQED television in May 1996 during Asian American heritage month.
