Journalists Invited to Professional Development Day

Sept. 7, Saturday -- Members of the media are invited to a workshop sponsored by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the University of California to be held at UC Davis. Print and broadcast journalists are invited to the free professional development day that includes sessions on how to tell a great story in 90 seconds, diversifying sources, destroying clichés, immigration trends and issues since Sept. 11, filming under challenging conditions, photographer tape critiques and making the jump from newspapers into magazines. Panelists include Professor Lydia Chavez from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, UC Davis bilingual immigration experts and award-winning print and broadcast professionals. Membership in NAHJ is not required, and the sessions will be in English with some Spanish. The 9 a.m.-4 p.m. event includes lunch and is located in MU II of the Memorial Union, UC Davis campus.
