What: To inform and better protect students, staff and faculty, the UC Davis Police Department is cosponsoring a two-day security symposium.
The first program of its kind in the nine-campus University of California system, the symposium will highlight ways to keep the workplace safe, stop computers from being stolen and prevent financial crime.
Recent events around the country have proven that even classrooms, faculty offices and other academic and staff departments are not immune to incidents of disruption or even threats or acts of violence. A special session is directed at receptionists, secretaries, office managers and administrators who want to know more about front-office security and issues surrounding disruptive and dangerous behavior.
When: Wednesday, Dec. 13, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 14, 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: AGR Room, Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center, UC Davis
Visuals: On the first day there will be vendor displays of the latest security devices available. In addition, there will be information on what causes disruptive and dangerous behavior and how to respond to potentially dangerous situations. On the second day, the class will provide an in-depth look at front-office security with demonstrations on how to mange the front-desk with more authority.
The keynote speaker is Terry J. Clark, a nationally known expert who will pass along tips on how to outfox potential troublemakers and demonstrate ways to control, secure and manage office areas.
Background: Members of the university community are committing themselves to having the safest environment possible for both people and property. The UC Davis Police Department and Human Resources and Risk Management at UC Davis are increasing activities related to safety and security.
