Increased enrollment in the UC Davis Graduate School of Management MBA Program for Working Professionals has forced it to relocate to new, larger quarters in Sacramento. The launching of the program in the fall of 1994 coincided with the region's recent economic boom, according to Robert Smiley, dean of the Graduate School of Management. The expansion of such companies as Hewlett-Packard and Intel, and the arrival of other new companies has fueled demand for advanced courses. Managers from the high-tech/communications and service industries represent a significant percentage of the program's enrollment. "Our program brings UC faculty expertise for the first time to managers in this region," said Smiley. "Companies recognize that their managers are now able to earn a UC MBA degree with little or no disruption to their regular work schedule." "The UC Davis MBA program for working professionals is an excellent example of how the university can have a positive influence in the community," said Gov. Pete Wilson, who supports the program. "This program brings greater professionalism to this region by training managers in both the public and private sectors to handle today's ever changing, challenging business environment."
