Background: Schooled at home, Nicole passed the California High School Proficiency Exam in 1997 at age 9. She began taking courses at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg in the spring of 1997 and enrolled full time in the fall of 1998. Transferring to UC Davis as a junior, Nicole wants to become a doctor and is intent on helping the poor in Vietnam, Africa and Asia. Her classes this fall include studies in physiology, organic chemistry and the Mandarin language.
Schooled at home since age 6, Andrew also passed the California High School Proficiency Exam at age 9. At 10, he began three years of studies at Los Medanos College. At age 13 last fall, Andrew transferred to UC Davis as a junior. Now a senior, he is working toward a bachelor's degree in engineering. Later, he hopes to earn two master's degrees, one in engineering and the other in business administration.
