The returning researchers, participants and family members have been delayed after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. They are now anticipated to arrive at Sacramento International Airport at 6:30 p.m. WHO: Researchers, participants, family members and survivors of the ill-fated University of California, Davis, expedition in the Sea of Cortez, as well as UC Davis officials, will fly home from San Diego. WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Media are advised to be present no later than 6 p.m., although the landing time is still subject to change and may possibly be delayed. WHERE: Sacramento International Airport, Administration Building (for photographing arrival and reunions on the tarmac), and then Terminal A (for a media availability in a press briefing room.) DIRECTIONS: Take Interstate 5 north toward Woodland. Exit at Sacramento International Airport. The Administration Building is a two-story building between Terminals A and B. Parking is available in the administration parking lot; vans and satellite trucks may park in front of the building. Escorts will guide media to set up to view the group returning on the tarmac. Media will not be allowed onto the tarmac. All of the passengers will then be bused along the tarmac to Terminal A. Media will be asked to drive around the airport and park at the curb near Terminal A. The briefing will be held on the second floor of Terminal A. BACKGROUND: The group of approximately 18 people crossed the Mexico border this afternoon and is meeting with U.S. Coast Guard investigators for a debriefing. The group will not be free to depart the San Diego area until this briefing has been completed. We anticipate that the plane will depart at 5 p.m., but a delay is possible. UC Davis has chartered a private jet to transport the group, as well as some of their family members, to Sacramento International Airport today. UC Davis officials, including Chancellor Larry N. Vanderhoef, School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Dean Neal Van Alfen, and campus counselors, have traveled to San Diego to accompany the group home.
