Researchers, participants and survivors of the ill-fated University of California, Davis, expedition in the Sea of Cortez are expected to return to Sacramento late today. The group will be crossing the Mexico border about mid-day, and then will be required to meet with U.S. Coast Guard investigators for a debriefing before they are free to return home. UC Davis has chartered a private jet to transport the group, as well as some of their family members, to Sacramento International Airport today. UC Davis officials, including Chancellor Larry N. Vanderhoef, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Dean Neal Van Alfen, and campus counselors, are in route to San Diego to accompany the group home. Unfortunately, we do not know when the group will arrive in Sacramento, as it is dependent on the length of the meeting with U.S. officials in San Diego County. We will hold a media availability at Sacramento International Airport with campus officials, members of the group, survivors and their family members who wish to speak publicly. Media who need to travel from the Bay Area or other locations can anticipate this availability to take place sometime after 3 p.m. More details will be provided regarding the time and location when they become available. Updated information and news releases can also be found on a special website devoted to the accident at . There are currently no plans for a media availability in the San Diego area.
