Media Advisory: Outlook for Winegrape Industry

A workshop on the outlook for the grape and wine industry at the University of California, Davis, on Wednesday, July 7, will explore international production, grower-winery contracts and labor issues. Preliminary results of a survey on grower-winery contracts will be reported. The survey was conducted by the UC Agricultural Issues Center, which has organized the second annual Winegrape Outlook Workshop. Most major wineries, growers and related industries will be represented at the sold-out event. Speakers include Barry Bedwell of Allied Grape Growers, Agustin Huneeus of the Quintessa Winery, Herbert Mason of the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board, and Philip Martin, a UC Davis professor and expert on farm labor issues. A discussion of international opportunities and issues will be held from 9:45 a.m. to noon. Risk and risk-management issues will be the focus for the afternoon. Grower-winery contracts will be discussed from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and labor market issues, from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop will be held in the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center.
