April 20-23, Monday to Thursday -- With flashing lights and wailing sirens, university police will stage an arrest for drunk driving on the first day of Safety Week at UC Davis. Focusing on road safety, the first of the four days will also include a presentation by a man convicted for drunk driving, a demonstration of how a vehicle roll affects occupants and the opportunity to observe blind spots from the cab of a truck pulling a 48-foot trailer. There will be a demonstration by the K-9 unit of the university police April 21, a demonstration on the proper use a fire extinguisher April 22 and a Red Cross first-aid demonstration April 23. Although most events will take place in the Quad from noon to 1 p.m., the week will also include a presentation on rape prevention and two self-defense classes in the evenings. Safety Week is being sponsored by the Associated Students of UC Davis. Media contact: Deanna Mills, student organizer, (530) 752-3339 or 754-0173, dmmills@ucdavis.edu.
