May 8-10, Friday to Sunday -- Jose Arguelles, a leading advocate for the world adoption of a Mayan calendar with 13 "months" with 28-day cycles, will speak at the Whole Earth Festival he is credited with founding 29 years ago when he taught at UC Davis. About 20,000 people are expected to attend the annual event, organized by students and community members to help people learn "how to live with the earth, not on it." Many of the event's features -- including educational workshops, music and dance, about 200 craft booths, an art exhibit and children's activities -- will be centered on the campus Quad. The festival will begin at noon Friday and continue from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Arguelles will speak at a news conference at noon Friday and make three presentations during the festival: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
