* Feb. 27, Friday -- In the annual celebration of Engineering Week, 500 students from local schools will wrap raw eggs in protective vehicles they have designed, then see if the eggs can survive the five-story drop from the roof of the UC Davis Physics/Geology Building. In previous years, eggs have been tucked in foam footballs, padded boxes, parachutes, a rubber chicken and a rag doll. Drops are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also planned: gumdrop-and-toothpick bridge building, water-balloon catapulting.
