Acclaimed pianist, language scholar and musicologist Charles Rosen -- called the "most versatile of living musicians" by a Los Angeles Times writer -- will perform and lecture on the UC Davis campus Nov. 19-23.On campus as a 1997 Regents' Lecturer, Rosen is the author of the book "The Classical Style: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven," winner of a National Book Award in 1972. He wrote portions of that book while in residence at UC Davis in the 1970s. Rosen has written other books as well, including one about the composer Arnold Schoenberg and his most recent work, "The Romantic Generation." With its accompanying compact disc, that book a year ago won a prestigious award from the American Musicological Society. During his week at UC Davis, Rosen will give a public lecture about Brahms on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and will perform in two concerts, including one on Sunday, Nov. 23, as a soloist with the UCD Symphony Orchestra, conducted by D. Kern Holoman.
