-- A pair of honors recently went to UC Davis mathematics professor Naoki Saito. The Office of Naval Research gave him a Young Investigator Award -- one of just two such awards this year in the area of mathematics and computer science. In addition, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers elevated Saito to senior member, a top professional grade granted to about 8 percent of the institute's 320,000 members.
