National Study Launched for Women's Health

UC Davis has been named one of 16 vanguard clinical centers and one of only two in California to participate in one of the largest and most ambitious clinical medical trials in the nation's history. The Women's Health Initiative, a 15-year, $625 million National Institutes of Health project, will target heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis. Researchers will examine the effects of a low-fat diet in cancer prevention and heart disease, the benefits and risks of hormone replacement therapy, and the effects of calcium and vitamin D supplements in preventing osteoporosis and colon cancer.
