Impressive views of wildflowers, oak woodlands and other wildlife can be found along the public nature trail at the UC Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center east of Marysville, recently opened for visitors. The Sierra Foothill center is home to a variety of research projects on topics ranging from beef cattle management to regeneration of oak trees. Birds, deer and other wildlife are in abundance around the center grounds this time of year, says Connor. The free mile-long trail is open weekdays, only, and is wheelchair accessible, according to Mike Connor, center director. Visitors may take a self-guided tour or walk the trail accompanied by a center staff person. To reach the Sierra Foothill center, follow Highway 20 east of Marysville for about 20 miles. Look for the center's information sign on the left side of the roadway.
