New Chair of Davis Chancellor's Club Appointed

The Davis Chancellor's Club, an organization of 350 donors who have each given an annual unrestricted gift of $1,000 or more to the University of California, Davis, has a new chair. Alumnus Bruce West, a Davis-based civil engineer who has been active in university and community activities, took over the position of chair following the completion of Orville Thompson's term last August. Thompson, who continues as an active contributor, held the post for the past two years. As chair, West represents the Davis Chancellor's Club at meetings of the UC Davis Foundation, conducts membership meetings and club events, and cultivates new members. Donations from the members provide the chancellor with the means to help support worthy programs not underwritten by the state. Funding activities support scholarships and emergency loans for students, recruitment of outstanding faculty and students, co-sponsorship of cultural programs and guest speakers on campus and in Sacramento, publications that promote the university, research grants for young faculty, seed money for new programs and facilities, and additional development activities. The club also fosters interaction between the chancellor and community leaders. West received his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from UC Davis, and went on to establish West-Yost & Associates, a 20-person civil/environmental engineering consulting firm in Davis. He is a past president of the UC Davis Engineering Alumni Association, a continuing member of the advisory committee for development at the College of Engineering, a past member of the board of directors and chair of the major events committee for the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, and member of several regional and national water works and water pollution professional organizations. West notes that the Davis Chancellor's Club always welcomes new members. By donating $1,000 or more in unrestricted funds, alumni, faculty, parents of students and others have the opportunity to help the university support its educational and research programs.
