New Chancellor and New Year Celebrated in Campuswide Event

What: Larry N. Vanderhoef will be inaugurated as the fifth chancellor of the University of California, Davis, in a ceremony featuring a colorful academic procession and a keynote address by Occidental College President John B. Slaughter. The campuswide event will be combined with the annual fall convocation, in which the campus celebrates the start of a new academic year. When: Wednesday, Sept. 28 10 a.m.-noon Where: Recreation Hall Visuals: The inaugural ceremony will begin with a procession of UC Regents, members of the UC Davis faculty in full academic regalia, and delegates from sister institutions and learned societies and associations, all dressed in the traditional academic regalia -- caps, gowns and hoods in colors that represent the wearers' alma maters and fields of study. Following the inauguration and convocation, a reception for faculty, staff, students and guests will be held in a canopied area on the lawn adjacent to Recreation Hall. The California Aggie Marching Band will provide entertainment. Directions: From Sacramento, take Interstate 80 to Highway 113. Exit at Hutchison Drive, turning right on Hutchison and left at La Rue Road. Recreation Hall is on your right. Parking: Park in Lot 25, just outside the hall; if driving an unmarked vehicle, please leave a business card on the dashboard. Seating: Seats are reserved for reporters in section 113. Accommodations will be made on the main floor near the stage for news media photographers and video camera operators.
