Students, staff, faculty and special guests will gather Wednesday, Sept. 28, in a festive and traditional ceremony to inaugurate Larry Vanderhoef as the fifth chancellor of UC Davis. The campuswide event will be combined with the annual fall convocation, in which the campus celebrates the start of a new academic year. John Slaughter, president of Occidental College, will give the keynote address, titled "Searching for Community." Vanderhoef will talk on "The Changing Ethos of Higher Education." The inauguration/convocation begins at 10 a.m. in Recreation Hall on campus. Vanderhoef, who joined the campus administration in 1984, was named chancellor by the UC regents last spring.
