Sue A. Francis, a veteran and award-winning fund-raiser, has been named the new executive director of development at the University of California, Davis.
Starting in her new position this month, Francis oversees the daily operations of the campus's private fund-raising efforts and supervises its central development office. She brings with her 20 years of experience in all aspects of institutional advancement, including annual, capital and planned-giving programs; alumni relations; and communications.
"At this critical time in UC Davis' efforts to raise funds for its many necessary projects, we need a strong, effective person with proven credentials in fund raising," said Dr. Julita Fong, chair of the board for the UC Davis Foundation. "I believe Sue Francis is such a person."
Francis comes to Davis from Pasadena, where she was vice president for development for the Foundation to Assist California Teachers. She has also served as vice president for institutional advancement for the Mid-Pacific Institute in Hawaii, director of marketing for Prestige Properties International in Kauai, and director of development for the Hanahauoli School in Hawaii.
Francis was named Hawaii's Outstanding Fund-raising Executive by the National Society for Fund-raising Professionals in 1992. She currently serves as the District VII Chair for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.
"We are extremely pleased to have someone of Sue's caliber managing our development operations," said Gina Kelsch, associate vice chancellor for university relations. "Under her leadership, we will be able to take our fund-raising programs to the next level."
Francis received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison (where she was Phi Kappa Phi and Mortar Board) and a master's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also studied German at the Albert-Ludwigs Universitat in Freiburg, Germany.
Francis' appointment was effective Feb. 3.
