New Raisin Production Manual Available for Growers

More than 80 years of university research, grower experience and industry innovations have been brought together in the new "Raisin Production Manual" recently published by the UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. "Twenty UC researchers, Cooperative Extension specialists and farm advisors contributed to the development of this manual," says Peter Christensen, retired Cooperative Extension viticulture specialist and lead editor for the book. "This is sure to be an invaluable reference for the raisin grower in making daily and long-term farming decisions." The new book, which is the first raisin production manual published in the United States in more than a century, deals with all aspects of the California system of raisin production including vineyard planting and development, pest management, cultural practices, harvesting, drying, handling, economic considerations, inspection and marketing. Its chapters on grapevine physiology, growth and development, fruitfulness, fruit ripening and drying, and raisin quality include the latest and best technologies and practices.
