How emerging information and communication technologies will be used to improve health in the years to come will be discussed April 19-20 by the National Library of Medicine director, Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg, and other prominent speakers participating in the 1996 Highman Symposium in Medical Informatics at UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center. The symposium offers a unique opportunity to explore the impact of several innovative technologies, including telemedicine, digital imaging and the Internet as new tools in the practice of medicine. Other highlights of the symposium include hands-on demonstrations of several emerging technologies including the World Wide Web, "filmless" X-rays and other digitalized radiography and telepathology materials, a telemedical review of diagnostic testing at remote sites, computer-based patient education resources, the remote teaching assistant, and the SLATE multimedia platform.
