President Peltason to Speak at Staff Celebration of Affirmative Action

Comments on affirmative action by UC President Jack Peltason will be featured at "Soaring to New Heights," an affirmative action and diversity event at UC Davis Friday, March 24. Scheduled for Freeborn Hall 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., this third annual program celebrates the campus's multicultural staff. The program is designed to give campus constituency groups as well as all staff members an opportunity to celebrate and to discuss issues pertaining to affirmative action and diversity. "Particularly in light of what's going on statewide and nationwide in regard to affirmative action, this year's discussion promises to be very timely," says staff member and co-chair of the event Micki Eagle. Entertainment will be provided 11 a.m.-noon by the singing group Entourage, the African American Repertory Dance Troupe and the UC Davis Gospel Choir. The main program begins at 12:10 p.m. Peltason's topic will be affirmative action at the university. Information tables staffed by constituency and special-interest groups also will be open 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
