International peacekeeping, the Middle East and Russia will be among policy areas in which a UC Davis professor will advise Secretary of State Warren Christopher. Bruce Jentleson, director of UC Davis' Washington Center will join the Clinton administration as a foreign policy official beginning July 1. His title will be special adviser to the director of the policy- planning staff in the State Department and he will work within Christopher's immediate office. In his new role, Jentleson will deal with immediate crises as well as provide long-range thinking on foreign policy for Christopher and the Clinton administration. A political science professor, Jentleson served for a number of years as a foreign policy adviser to then Sen. Al Gore, and played a key foreign policy advisory role in President Clinton's campaign. Jentleson will take a leave of absence from the center while he works in the Clinton administration.
