Proposed Lake Tahoe Research Center Is Public Meeting Topic

The public is invited to attend a meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, focusing on UC Davis' proposed Lake Tahoe Center for Environmental Research. The center would provide researchers with on-site laboratory space for studies of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada. The center would allow scientists in such diverse fields as atmospheric science, engineering, geology, limnology and forest dynamics to work together in conducting basic research and solving complex environmental problems. In addition to the chemistry and biology wings, the center could accommodate K-12 outreach activities and public lectures. Those attending the meeting will have an opportunity to learn more about the project, the design process and future environmental review, and to provide the campus with comments on issues to be addressed in the design and environmental review. The meeting will be held between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Mountain Ballroom of the Granlibakken Conference Center, 72 Granlibakken Road, Tahoe City. The open-house meeting format will allow the public to talk directly with university researchers and planners early in the project planning before the first designs are developed.
