Pros and cons of Prop 209 featured in forum

Those still uncertain about Prop 209 will have a chance to hear more about the controversial initiative during a forum at UC Davis on Thursday, Oct. 31. The event, free and open to the public, will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. in Freeborn Hall. Karl Pister, UC chancellor emeritus from Santa Cruz, will provide an overview of the practice and impact of affirmative action at the University of California. Presentations by Alexander Astin, a professor at UCLA, and Assemblyman Bernie Richter, R-Chico, will be followed by a panel discussion with Robert Corry of the Pacific Legal Foundation and Martha Jimenez, regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. The event, organized by the campus cross-cultural center, is co-sponsored by several campus units.
