Put Your Best Foot and Fork Forward

What: You are attending a meeting at a very expensive, busy restaurant and the host is already 20 minutes late. As the guest, what are your options? How long is a fair time to wait for a no-show? Is it okay to eat or drink while waiting? Knowing the rules of etiquette helps a person project an image of confidence, courtesy and professionalism, according to course instructor Shirley Willey of Etiquette and Co. Students attending the Graduate School of Management at UC Davis have decided a three-hour course is worth their time. The business school created this course because students wanted to make sure that if they were turned down for a job during an interview that included a meal, it wasn't because they didn't know what to do with the olive pit or the bug in their Caesar salad. When: Friday, Feb. 17 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Where: Lounge, University Club UC Davis Visuals: Students will learn table manners, place settings and have an opportunity to test their skills with a three-course meal. Directions: Take the UC Davis exit off of Interstate 80 and proceed north toward the main campus. Turn right on Old Davis Road and turn left at the stop sign onto A street. Turn right into parking lot #5. (Reporters can also stop at the kiosk on Old Davis Road and ask for directions to the University Club). Parking: Park in lot 5. News media may park in most places on campus for free, if vehicles are marked or a business card is placed on the dashboard.
