-- Ramon Berguer, a UC Davis assistant professor of surgery based at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinez, will share $250,000 in cash and Web development services as one of the first three winners of an international award intended to help nonprofit organizations do their work through the Internet. The award was sponsored by Ericsson, a Swedish-based telecommunications company. Berguer submitted an entry on behalf of Medical Training Worldwide, an organization that teaches modern surgery, anesthesia and critical-care techniques to doctors and nurses in developing countries. He chairs the organization, is its program leader and is responsible for its Web page.
