re: Canine Calvin's release from Vet Med Hospital

Calvin, a Burnese mountain dog and the special pet of the Sacramento Children's Home, will be released from the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital on Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m. Calvin underwent delicate spinal cord surgery to relieve lameness. Calvin has lost the use of his legs due to unstable neck vertebrae. Dr. Richard LeCouteur, neurosurgeon at the UC Davis veterinary hospital, removed bone from Calvin's neck and fused it to unstable bones in the neck. The dog is now walking comfortably and will make an excellent recovery, according to LeCouteur. Several children from the children's home will be present at the hospital when Calvin is released. He has become the children's favorite pet. The dog will be released from the small animal clinic of the teaching hospital. Media covering the story should identify themselves to the receptionists at the front counter on the second floor of the hospital. Ask for Cindy Savely, small animal clinic supervisor, and she will escort you to the release center. From Interstate 80 take Highway 113 headed toward Woodland. Take the Hutchison Drive exit and turn right. At the first signal light, turn right and proceed on La Rue Road for one-quarter mile. Turn right on Garrod Drive and follow road sign directions to the small animal clinic. Reporters may park in most places for free. If your vehicle is unmarked, place a business card on the dashboard.
