re: Center for Ecological Research meeting

March 8, 1995 Dear Environmental Journalist: I would like to invite you to attend an informal meeting of scientists affiliated with the University of California, Davis, Center for Ecological Health Research on Friday, March 17. The center was founded three years ago to study ecological problems facing Northern California with funding from the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency. UC Davis researchers with the center study various factors such as toxic substances, drought, salinity, temperature and introduction of non-native species that can stress ecosystems. The researchers will discuss the status of their projects. . The center's 1994-95 annual meeting will open with center director and professor Dennis Rolston's report at 9 a.m., to be followed by an invited address by Grace Brush, a professor of geography and environmental engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Other speakers during the daylong event include several UC Davis faculty members, including Peter Richerson, a professor of environmental studies, who will discuss the center's Clear Lake Project; Barry Wilson, chair of avian sciences, who will discuss the agricultural ecosystem project; John Carroll, a professor of land, air and water resources, who will talk about the forests project; Charles Goldman, a professor of environmental studies and head of the Tahoe Research Group, who will talk about Lake Tahoe, and David Hinton, a veterinary medicine professor, who will describe the Sacramento River/Delta/San Francisco Bay project. Posters showing the work by these and other researchers affiliated with the center will be on display during the day.
