Local community members attending African-American Family Day on Saturday, May 18, are encouraged to travel to the UC Davis campus by means other than a motor vehicle. To manage the large number of event attendees and avoid grid-lock, campus traffic and parking will be closely controlled. Those who must drive are advised to enter the campus at State Route 113 and Hutchison Drive or Interstate 80 and Old Davis Road. Caltrans may close these freeway off-ramps if traffic congestion on campus results in traffic backups on the off-ramps.
Transportation and Parking Services suggests that those who will be attending should arrive early for more convenient parking. Shuttles will serve perimeter parking areas.
Campus roads intersecting Russell Boulevard (Orchard Park Circle, La Rue Road, California Avenue, Howard Way, A Street and First Street at the B Street intersection) will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Streets that intersect with A Street between First Street and Russell will be blocked at A Street during this same period. Other city streets may be blocked where they intersect with Russell Boulevard between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. to facilitate the movement of traffic from the campus to the freeway system.
