re: Whistlestop tour

Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef will be touring Northern California farms and ranches to observe firsthand the innovative farming practices that fuel the local economy. In addition, the chancellor hopes to strengthen ties with local farmers and ranchers on his two-day tour Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10. The University of California, Davis, chancellor will be touring the Roney Ranch near Chico at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. Reporters are welcome to join Chancellor Vanderhoef as he sees how cattle ranchers are changing their grazing methods in order to protect the vernal pools in Butte and Tehama Counties. The Roney Ranch is 12 miles north of Chico on Highway 99. Turn right on the Rony Trail just past the Hamilton-Nord exit off Highway 99. The chancellor will be accompanied by Sheila Barry, natural resource/livestock advisor for Tehama County Cooperative Extension. The chancellor's trip is also designed to reinforce activities of the Cooperative Extension service in California and the movement toward sustainable agriculture.
